About Community Ties
Who's behind
Community Ties?
Community Ties was developed by Michigan State University's department of Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media and funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Grant # 2008-55401-04592.
However, a project connecting a community wouldn't be successful without local support from community partners and participation from community members like you- so use the Community Ties website starting today and continue to come back regularly to connect with other community members. Reach out to local youth if you are a local professional and reach out to local professionals in your desired field if you are a student. Together we can build a brighter tomorrow, right here in our community.
Community Ties: Tied together by our Community.
- Community Ties helps people connect and network in their communities.
- Community Ties is for young people and professionals living in the same community.
The purpose of Community Ties is to have local youth and adults connect online to:
Spark interactions.
Spark interactions between youth and professional role models, business peers with each other, students with each other, budding entrepreneurs with experienced business professionals.
Expand career awareness.
There are many viable careers in our community that are invisible – jobs done behind closed doors and computer screens, that many of us are not aware exist.
Prevent bright flight.
Far too often, our best and brightest youth leave our community because they feel that opportunity awaits them elsewhere. If we strengthen Community Ties by placing local opportunities and invisible jobs in the spotlight, youth will realize “there’s no place like home.”
Ignite Inspiration.
Sometimes you may feel like you are all alone in your profession or business, but our community is filled with local experts just like you. Connecting with other professional peers can help ignite inspiration and innovation to everyday problems.
Tie the community together.
Going beyond just sparking interactions, the more involved you are with your community (online and offline) the more you will feel tied to your community. Developing and strengthening these connections helps expand career awareness, prevent bright fight, and ignite inspiration… making our community stronger and more tied than ever.
